On Trend Women

The countdown to Christmas has begun and with it comes a host of all important party invites! If you want to be remembered as the one who shone this party season, then read our essential guide to looking fabulous in the season’s key trends.
Metallics remain one of the biggest fashion stories this winter. For a dramatic look, do it top-to-toe and style a metallic maxi dress with a contrasting velvet clutch. Alternatively for a more subtle take on the trend, mix glossy and matt: try a high-shine vest and high-waisted pencil skirt and killer heels for total sophistication. Stick to molten hues of gold, copper and silver to avoid the sweet wrapper effect!
Colour blocking is fast emerging as a red carpet favourite this season; from the subtlest hues look to Eva Mendes in mint Thierry Mugler and Rachel Bilson in palest blue Chloe to the ultimate in glamour, Kate Winslet in floor sweeping red by Ellie Saab. For a fashion-forward take on the colour blocking trend, look for figure hugging leather dresses in fruity hues of tangerine, strawberry and peach.
Skirts - the super sophisticated alternative to the dress this season. Encapsulate the glamour of the 40s with a full midi skirt; take inspiration from Carey Mulligan and style with a sleeveless blouse and statement heels. And with the return of the stiletto this season, what better way to shoe off your pins. Alternatively for those blessed with a flat stomach, look to Gwyneth Paltrol and try a vintage inspired lace embellished maxi skirt and matching cropped tee.
Graphic prints are a sure way to get you noticed this festive season - from the oriental and horticultural inspired designs seen at Mary Katrantzou and Dolce & Gabbana to clashing prints at Dries van Noten. If you’re looking for a bit more longevity, then this is a trend that will see you through to the spring. Make this trend work for you and opt for simple cuts – shift and slim fitting pieces work best, keeping accessories to a minimum.
Boots were everywhere on the catwalks this autumn/winter and are the perfect way to update an existing outfit. Look to Diane von Furstenberg and team a midi metallic dress with knee-high suede boots – the key to getting this look right is ensuring your hemline overlaps your boots. For shorter hemlines, opt for a pair of heeled ankle boots in leather or suede.
Accessorising is still the simplest and most inexpensive way to update any outfit and this Christmas season, it’s all about shining! From matching gloss nails to glitter shoes and metallic clutches, add a splash of gold or silver to add some luxe glamour to your little black dress and you’re ready to go!
